Student Dress Code

All students are expected to be well-groomed and maintain a professional appearance in both the clinical setting and on campus.

The following are not appropriate in the learning environment, including classrooms and clinical settings:

  • Long, sculpted nails
  • Mini-skirts or short shorts
  • Midriff-baring or halter tops
  • Low-cut tops or any clothing exposing the chest area, breasts, or cleavage
  • Tattered jeans, frayed, or worn pants
  • Tight-fitting clothing
  • Sweatshirts or T-shirts with offensive language or imagery
  • Sunglasses, hats, ball caps, or brimmed hats of any kind indoors

Maintaining a professional appearance is essential for representing both yourself and Donnelly College in a manner consistent with the standards of the healthcare profession.

UNIFORMS - Uniforms must be clean, wrinkle-free and in good repair.

  • Student uniforms will be purchased by the student
  • PN students are required to wear all red scrubs
  • RN students are required to wear all black scrubs
  • Students are required to wear the student uniform in the clinical and lab setting when performing practicums only
  • Scrub Jackets (white only) may be worn for warmth

UNDERGARMENTS

  • A white short or long-sleeved shirt may be worn under the scrub top
  • A white turtleneck may be worn for additional warmth

SOCKS

  • Only white or neutral-colored socks or hosiery are permitted

SHOES

  • Shoes must be solid white or solid black.
  • Footwear must be clean, polished, and in good repair, including clean shoelaces if applicable.
  • Prohibited: Clogs, sandals, and boots.

ID BADGE

  • Students must wear the ID badge provided by Donnelly
  • Badges must be worn visible above the waist
  • ID badges are for school-related activities only and must not be worn outside of school settings
  • Lost badges must be replaced immediately through the college Admissions Department

JEWELRY

  • Only wedding or engagement rings may be worn with the uniform. Rings with large stones are not permitted
  • Earrings must be small and inconspicuous (gold, silver, pearl, or diamond posts only). One pair of earrings may be worn—no hoops or dangling styles
  • The only acceptable watch is a nurse’s watch with a second hand. Ornamental or digital watches are not permitted
  • Body piercings (tongue, nose, lip, eyebrows, etc.) are not allowed. A clear or skin-colored post may be worn if needed
