Nursing Student Handbook

Medical Insurance Requirement

All students enrolled in the Donnelly College Nursing Program are required to maintain active medical insurance coverage throughout the duration of the program. This requirement is mandated by the MOKAN Clinical Student System, which governs clinical placements and onboarding across many healthcare facilities in the Kansas-Missouri region.

Why This is Required:

  • Clinical sites participating in the MOKAN system require proof of medical insurance as a condition of student participation.
  • Students are responsible for their own health care costs in the event of injury, illness, exposure, or other medical events during clinical or simulation experiences.
  • Neither Donnelly College nor the affiliated clinical sites assume financial responsibility for student medical needs.

Important Notes:

  • All U.S. health insurance plans are accepted, including Medicaid, private, and government marketplace plans.
  • Proof of coverage must be uploaded into the ClinicalStudent platform and kept up to date at all times.
  • Failure to maintain current health insurance may result in ineligibility for clinical placement and delay in program progression.
