Probation Program - Nursing Students
STUDENT ACADEMIC & ADMINISTRATIVE PROBATION PROGRAM
Academic Probation is assigned to a student by the Director of Nursing when a student's cumulative grade point average falls below 80% at the end of any semester or 8-week term and/or course remediation has not been completed or not completed successfully.
Administrative Probation can be assigned to a student whose lack of professional or ethical behavior and/or academic performance in the academic or clinical areas does not adhere to the standards of the nursing profession.
The purpose of the probationary status is to develop a remediation plan to support and ensure the student's successful completion of the nursing program. Probation requirements must be met by a student who is placed on probation for the student to remain in the nursing program.
- Students on academic probation will meet with the nursing advisor and the Director of Nursing to develop a tailored remediation plan that may include tutoring, predictive and adaptable testing/support, test-taking techniques, stress management and other mental health support services.
- The Nursing Advisor and Director of Nursing will determine the length of the probationary period and create the Probation Contractual Agreement outlined below.
- A student may only be on probation one time for the same issue during their time in the nursing major.
- For students on academic probation, one or more failure(s) of any nursing course(s) will result in dismissal from the program and the student will not be permitted to reapply.
- The student may be removed from probation upon satisfactory completion (at 80% or above) of their nursing academic year. Satisfactory completion is indicated by a majority of 80% or higher grades in completed nursing courses.
The Probation Contractual Agreement
- A student on academic or administrative probation will meet with the Nursing Academic Advisor and Director of Nursing to discuss the contractual agreement regarding acceptable academic standards and professional behavior.
- The contract must be signed by the student, the Nursing Advisor and Director of Nursing.
- The contract must be satisfied in its entirety prior to the student being removed from probationary status.
- Failure to satisfy the Probation Contractual Agreement and/or failure to meet program requirements will result in dismissal from the nursing program.
