Code of Conduct for Nursing Students
In academic and clinical settings, student nurses are expected to:
- Adhere to all academic integrity policies (no cheating, plagiarism, falsification of records).
- Maintain professional boundaries with patients and faculty.
- Uphold confidentiality of all clinical and classroom information.
- Demonstrate respectful behavior in all interactions.
- Follow clinical site policies, dress codes, and safety protocols.
- Accept constructive feedback and engage in self-reflection for growth.
As a student in the Nursing Program, I will:
- Strive for excellence in all aspects of academic and clinical performance.
- Advocate for the rights of patients/clients.
- Maintain personal, physical and emotional stability.
- Communicate appropriately, adequately, truthfully, verbally, and in writing.
- Promote lifelong learning and constantly strive to improve the quality of nursing care.
- Maintain and promote integrity, respect, truthfulness, and honor in the performance of all academic and clinical responsibilities.
- Treat others with respect in all areas of the clinical and academic settings.
- Facilitate an environment in the classroom and clinical setting that promotes learning and allows faculty to educate nursing students.
- Cooperate in every reasonable manner with the academic and clinical facility and clinical faculty to ensure the highest quality of patient/client care and use every opportunity to improve faculty and staff understanding of the learning needs of the nursing student.
- Accept faculty and clinical staff as mentors to assist and support my student academic and clinical needs.
- Provide appropriate care to clients in a reasonable, compassionate, considerate, knowledgeable, and professional manner regardless of age, sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, criminal history or diagnosis..
- Refrain from performing any technique or procedure, including medication administration, without an instructor present.
- Actively promote and encourage the highest level of legal and ethical principles in academic and clinical situations.
