Exam Analysis

Following administration, faculty shall complete a formal item analysis to evaluate both student performance and examination quality.

Item Analysis Metrics

The following statistical indicators will be reviewed:

  • Difficulty index
  • Discrimination index
  • Point-biserial correlationDistractor performance

Items identified as statistically weak, non-discriminating, or flawed will undergo faculty review for revision, retention, or removal.

Faculty Review Process

Course faculty will:

  • Review overall examination performance data
  •  Analyze trends in student outcomes
  • Determine whether instructional or content adjustments are warranted
  • Document all exam analysis data for each assessment administered on the Exam Analysis Spreadsheet found in Sharepoint.

If an examination item is determined to be invalid, scoring adjustments will be applied equitably to all students after discussion with nursing leadership.

Documentation and Continuous Quality Improvement

All examination item analyses and review documentation will be maintained in accordance with program record-keeping policies.

Examination data will be reviewed at least once per semester by the Exam Analysis and Review Committee to:

  • Identify longitudinal trends in student performance
  •  Evaluate alignment with NCLEX standards
  • Recommend curricular, instructional, or assessment modifications as indicated

Findings will be communicated to nursing faculty during scheduled meetings to support ongoing program improvement.

Policy Review

This policy shall be reviewed annually by the Exam Analysis and Review Committee and revised as necessary to reflect regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and evolving best practices in nursing education.
