Accommodations - ADA
The purpose of academic disability accommodation in higher education is not to make the student’s educational experience easier, but instead is designed to remedy the effects of a student's disability, within reason. Our goal in providing services is to ensure that the student’s disability does not prevent the student from educational and experientialopportunities.
The two laws that govern disability accommodations in higher education are Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (Title III is specifically for non-public schools) and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. Please note though, K-12 education is governed by different laws than institutions of higher education, and so academic accommodations may work differently at Donnelly College than you have experienced before arriving.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are required to directly contact the Dean of the College to start the accommodations process. Students are required to arrange a meeting with the Dean of the College to hand deliver their documents that list the needed accommodation(s) and are signed by their healthcare professional and to discuss the accommodation(s) setup.
A parent who wishes to discuss their student’s accommodations must have an academic FERPA release form on file for that student with the Registrar’s Office.
IMPORTANT: The student is required to send the Dean of the College an email amaradiaga@donnelly.edu each school year, that asks for their current accommodation(s) to continue through the next school year.
