IT 218 Cybersecurity

This course provides a broad overview of cybersecurity. Following the CompTIA Security+ outline, it covers core cybersecurity topics including cyber threats and vulnerabilities, cryptography, mobile and embedded devices, network devices and security, identity and access management, cloud and virtualization security, incident response and investigation, secure infrastructure design, security monitoring and defenses, security operations, and information security management.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of IT 201, students will have the ability to:

  1. Distinguish various cyber threats and vulnerabilities and their impact on information systems.
  2. Illustrate cryptographic techniques and protocols that ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity.
  3. Apply security measures for network devices, mobile, and embedded systems to protect against attacks, unauthorized access, and data breaches.
  4. Use effective identity and access management strategies.
  5. Handle security incidents.
