Readmission
Readmission Eligibility After Course Failure(s) - Nursing
- Program dismissal due to course failure(s) requires the student to submit a new application for readmission.
- Failure to apply for readmission and restart coursework within one (1) year of temporary dismissal will require the student to restart the entire nursing curriculum from the beginning.
- Returning students who were temporarily dismissed may be required to complete competency and/or skills testing with a minimum passing score of 90% prior to readmission.

Students seeking readmission must submit a new Donnelly College and Donnelly Nursing Program Application during the designated admission period.

Readmission is not guaranteed and is contingent upon space availability in the program.
1. A nursing course that is failed (grade of D or F) may be repeated only once. The student will not be allowed to progress in the curriculum until the failed course(s) has been repeated. Failure of the same repeated course a second time will result in dismissal from the program.
2. If there is a failure in one part of the course (lecture, clinical practice or lab) the total course (all sections) will need to be retaken.
3. Program dismissal due to two course failures, lecture or clinical, requires that the student wait 1 year but less than 2 years before applying for readmission.
4. A student with grade failures per above can apply for readmission after 1 year. Readmission must be within 2 years. Students seeking readmission should note that if their first-semester nursing courses are more than two years old, they will be required to restart and repeat the full nursing curriculum.
5. Any student who fails three courses (even if two failures are the same course) will not be allowed to return to the program for a period of 5 years. (Science prerequisites will need to be retaken.)
NOTE: A course that was appealed and the failure changed to a pass will not count as one of the three failures.
Student Request for Readmission (after failing grades per above)
1. If there have been major curriculum changes, the student will be required to take any new content and/or courses that were added during the time away.
2.. If readmission occurs after a 2-year break, the dismissed student will be required to repeat the nursing curriculum in its entirity.
3. Returning students need to resubmit a Nursing Application during the spring or fall admission periods for their respective nursing program. It is important to work with the Nursing Advisor throughout this process. crisher@donnelly.edu
4. Acceptance will be considered on a space available basis
5. At the director's discretion, the student may be asked to complete competency and/or skills testing with a 90% pass rate or better before being granted readmission.
6. Students returning to their nursing program after course failures must be admitted with a restart date for the failed class(es) before a two-year period has elapsed from the time of the original course. If a student comes back to repeat a course, but the break is more than 2 years old, the student will be required to repeat the entire nursing curriculum.
