Attendance & Emergency Leave - LAS Faculty

Professional Responsibility
Faculty attendance directly affects student learning, continuity of instruction, and the integrity of the nursing program. As educators, we model professional behavior and adaptive capacity in line with Roy's Adaptation Model, demonstrating responsibility and resilience in meeting our teaching and service obligations.

Consistent and reliable faculty presence is essential to maintaining the professionalism, instructional quality, and student-centered environment of the Donnelly College Nursing Program. Nursing faculty serve as role models of accountability and are expected to demonstrate the same commitment to attendance and punctuality as we expect from our students.

Absence
When full-time faculty or adjunct instructors become unable to fulfill their assigned teaching duties for any given semester, a substitute instructor may be employed to complete the incapacitated instructor's teaching assignment.

  1. The employee's Department Director should be informed by completing the Faculty Absence Notification Form in writing ahead of time or as soon as possible.
    • In the event of the absence of the Department Director, the Dean should be notified.
  2. If an instructor is unable to teach their scheduled classes, they are responsible for finding a substitute instructor or for making an alternative assignment.
    • Faculty should substitute for one another whenever possible.
    • Full-time faculty who substitute for another faculty member on a temporary basis will not be compensated for substitute pay.
    • If an adjunct instructor requires a substitute for more than 25% of a semester's total class time, the college may deduct the instructor's wages to cover the substitute's pay, offsetting unbudgeted expense.
      •  Prorated pay will be calculated by the Payroll Administrator.
  3. The substitute pay rate is $25.00 an hour.
  4. A Donnelly Adjunct instructor who adds a substitute role temporarily will be paid the hourly rate.
    1. The adjunct instructor's supervisor should send an email to the payroll administrator and copy the Dean and the HR Director and indicate the number of classroom hours per week the substitute will be teaching.
