EN 108 Introduction to Popular Culture

This course is designed to introduce students to some of the myriad texts, events, and aspects of US American popular culture. Although this course will draw on students' inevitable familiarity with some types of popular culture, we will begin to approach the subject from a scholarly perspective. The overall objective is to explore how popular culture reflects the world around us and influences the way we perceive the world. We will examine popular culture media such as film, television, music, advertising, sporting events and print media and begin the process of critical reception of these texts to better understand how U.S. American popular culture helps to shape our lives.
